Live Below the Line Campaign

Earlsdon Ward Councillor Allan Andrews has signed up to take part in an international event that will see him living on £1 a day for five days from 7th - 11th May.

Live Below the Line is an initiative of the Global Poverty Project and is an innovative awareness and fundraising campaign that's making a huge difference in the fight against extreme poverty. It is building a movement of passionate people willing and able to make a meaningful difference to those who need it most.

Cllr Andrews’ chosen charity is UNICEF, who works with families, communities and governments in 190 countries to help vulnerable children.

By living off just £1 per day for food for 5 days, those taking part will be living the direct experiences of the 1.4 billion people currently living in extreme poverty and helping to make real change. £1 is the accepted global figure used to define extreme poverty and is the UK equivalent of the extreme poverty line.

Commenting on taking part, Cllr Allan Andrews said: “1.4 billion people live in extreme poverty. That’s over 20 times the population of the UK.  My participation is a very small step to try and raise some awareness of extreme poverty and to do something positive.

“It will be an experience to live on £1 a day but I believe this campaign is absolutely vital to raising awareness about extreme poverty. The money not spent on my usual food bill will be donated to the cause, and of course I will be seeking kind support from friends, colleagues, local residents and businesses to help raise money for UNICEF who do incredible work in some of the poorest communities in the world.

“If I can help to raise a modest amount of money to help some of the world’s poorest people it will be very worthwhile.”
